Match Diesel endorsed Stephen Presley from UT for callahan. I disagree. First, Match comes to Stephen only because he can discredit all the other front runners, so according to Match, Stephen is the next best selection. I think Stephen is a very good player, but not my pick for callahan. My 2 cents, Sam Kanner. His freshman year CUT makes quarterfinals, Sophomore year semifinals and now, in the midst of CUT's best season since 2001, Kanner is a captain. He routinley covers the other teams best player. Ask Presley, or Neff, Mac, or Foster, who's the best defender in college ultimate?
We tried having a minute shot clock at practice yesterday. Once we got within 5 seconds before a goal was scored, then we tried 45 seconds, only reached it once. Kind of silly, kind of fun.
Senior comprehensive test tomorrow, then I'm done with my project. The profs ensure that nobody has ever failed, wahoo!

Stall counts

Nobody has a legit 10 second stall count, nobody. This past weekend, Animal (tom annensp?) of Wisconsin, called fast count on me 3 times, in my mind I'm like, this is bullfucshidass, but in reality, I'm fast counting. Drop 2 life goes on. My goal at our next scrimmage is to see how long I can hold the disc by making fast count/disc space calls, my guess is 25 seconds, it goes something like this:
Marker: "stalling 1 - 2 - 3"
Me: "Fast count"
Marker: doesn't know what to do at first (+1 second) then "2 - 3 - 4" (total of 7 seconds now)
Me: Pivot, "Disc Space"
Marker: "3 - 4 - 5 - 6" (11 seconds)
Me: Pivot, "Disc Space"
Marker: "5 - 6 - 7" (14 seconds)
Me: "Fast Count"
At this point either the mark calls BS or things continue on as planned (maybe I'll wait for a rookie to guard me)
Marker: "6 - 7 - 8 - 9" (18 seconds)
Me: Fast Count (probably is, everybody fast counts 8 - 9)
Marker: "8 - 9" (20 seconds)
Me: Pivot, "Disc Space"
Marker: "8 - 9" (22 seconds)
Me: "Fast Count"
Marker: "8 - 9 -" (24.5 seconds)
Me: throw (look at my mark like, what a sucker)
I anticipate my downfield cutters stopping at stall "15" because they think a call has been made.
In other news, the format/seedings for the NW regionals this weekend is up. WWU is horribly over seeded and have a great ride into the 2nd place game. I love the boys on that team, I hope they live up to it, but I just don't see it going their way.
what could have been

Wow, can observers really blow a game? it appears so. Wet here in Nfield, fields are in bad shape after a tough weekend. Hard game simulator workout yesterday, thinking of heading to Mammel's cabin this weekend.
The pro Florida argument is wrong. CUT has said for years that nothing matters until sectionals, Florida's victories at Vegas, Stanford, and Huck Finn are forgotten. Win when it matters, Brodie wanted to be the big shot, put the team on his shoulders, make all the plays, he got his chance down the stretch, but couldn't do it. I know what it feels like not to make nationals ('06 when the CN region had 1 bid) and it sucks, so Brodie I feel your pain.
Props to Kalgin who had a tough double game point to go against UCSB. He said he'll be making the drive to Ohio, the more the merrier.

Sorry to anyone that tried to watch the webcast. Sunday morning games were delayed midway through due to lightning. It rained pretty steadily from Sat night through Sunday, and our dry fields were not ready for the challenge. So Laird Stadium was closed down and we ended up playing the hodags on our practice fields. So right, sorry.
Then, finally beating Wisco when it matters. I've been working a long time for this, nice to have the payoff at home, senior year, sidelines packed with your friends/family/professors. Wisconsin played well, we played better. Our defense forced a lot of high stall count throws, some of which were completed, but we got enough to win 13-8. It was awesome high-fiving Jerome, Mammel, Rob after the game.
Here's a cool stat, in the 54 points the offense played at sectionals and regionals, we were broken 4 times, thats over 90%
It's too bad Florida couldn't qualify for nationals. There is lots of bashing/supporting of Florida going on over at RSD. With three bids Florida should have made it. I think this was a long time coming. Losing three times highlights the problem, not just a one game slip. Florida had the talent to win the AC, but they were obviously missing something. You have to wonder what the team was thinking in the last game, would a true love for one another have won that game? I don't like Florida, not any of their players, just when they are a team. I'm glad they lost, all this showboating and acting like champions, major karma check. I wish they were going to nationals so we could beat them too.
Still unraveling the weekend in my head, more later this week.

PHUCING OBSERVERS~
Observers for the Minnesota semifinal
- Seth Meyers - GoP alum, Hodag Alum (1 year removed)
- Geo Beek - Luther Alum, Subzero (clear disdain for Carleton, though he wears his CUT jersey to hide it)
While it seems like it should be easy to separate yourself from your past teams, especially now that they're bad (hodags) there is no way that Seth or Geo can say they are unbiased. It's not there fault, I would be biased if I was reffing a CUT game.

Kanner and I assigned fields for regionals this weekend, harder than you'd think. With more teams than fields, we had some byes to work in, also the fields are divided into upper and lower so we had to keep that in mind (teams won't have to move up-down-up). We got word only finals will be in the stadium (O/W). Weekend weather forecast here, lets move the tournament up a couple days huh?

Sectional CHAMP 4 times running...
We finished with a stop at Chipotle, good way to take in some calories. Curme and his mom were gracious enough to have some of the team over for a home cooked meal, halo 3, half of Varsity Blues, hottubing, and apples2apples (which only reaffirmed my distaste for this game - thanks Bill). Not having to drive the hour back to Nfield was sweet.
We were out of bed early Sunday morning at 6:30am luckily there was a hot pot of coffee and a real breakfast (though this went against my good luck McDonald's #2). It was 40 and rainy, a big swing from Sat's 65+. Semis against GoP and they came out with their usual muster. With a bit of a wind, our defensive was unbeatable for many 10 second iterations, needless to say, GoP could not hang, 15-5. After a bye and a stop at a local sandwich shop where Curme's mom Anne, again fed the team. YEAH PCUTTTTTTTTTT. We were in finals against UMDuluth Northern Lights who had upset an awful looking UofM GreyDuck 13-12. Duluth rolled over much like the others and we had another sectional championship 15-5.
Take a peek at Paul's pictures from Saturday (lots of me)

The regionals format we are pushing for. Nice because you win 3 on Saturday and you are going to nationals period. Preparations are heating up, some guy from the cities is super jonesd on doing the webcast. We have the FOSHO on Mens/Womens finals in the stadium regardless of the weather (from the club sports director). I have no idea what is happening in 7.5 weeks

sectionals
Sectionals seeding/format is up here. It sucks for the teams in finals, they (we) play at 8am Sunday morning then not again until 12noon. There are other seeding games going on but this format rewards the losing team from finals not the winning team. I say you play the finals right after the 8am round and let the loser stew about the 2/3 placement game. Once you make it to finals you are guaranteed a spot so why bother making the game later? Spectators at sectionals? they might as well drive the extra hour to Northfield for regionals. Also, you could go from semis Sunday morning, lose out (4games) and not go to regionals (GoP 2007)
Do yourself a favor and watch this movie; really great stuff.

While Bill and Hannah are frolicking in the +65 Walla Walla weather, Nfield had a winter watch advisory. I went to bed last night with a bad bout of the chills and now I wake up this morning and it's snowing at 8am. Stupid
