Back to the training session with Tim...

we started working on 2 steps, which Tim calls the power step and the getaway step, all sorts of things are important. First the power step, all comes from the hip. Infact, it turns out, pretty much any explosive movement comes form the hip. Then there is the shin angle to think about - which makes sense - thinking of free body diagrams and all - if you are trying to go forward you gotta push backward (not down).

Sockeye meeting was Friday night, a 5 hour process. All nominees were shunned to the upstairs attic for the final 2 hour deliberation... upside is I found out about this TV show called Archer - Congratulations to the 2012 captains: Skip, MC, Danny, and Sam. A great group.

I met up with Hannah, Bill, and Mellie in Fremont, where Hannah proceeded to scarf down a hotdog and bill introduced me to the tv show Trailer Park Boys - a Canadian production that is pretty hilarious.

Saturday Morning: CampFair - hosted by local magazine ParentMap - bummer to be inside on our nicest day of the year. :( but check out their website if you need any parenting help.

Saturday Afternoon: Explored Madron neighborhood with Bill, Hannah, and Mellie. Such old, awesome houses. if anybody has $1,085,000 laying around i know just the spot for you.

Saturday Evening: Tim Morrill - I cant say enough about this guy. If you aren't training the way he is talking about - good luck. It was an awesome experience. I was skeptical coming into it. I had heard about Tim and the work he was doing but I wasn't convinced it was rooted in the fundamentals of training. Those notions quickly changed...

We started with a 'Sockeye only' training session. He focused on the importance of mobility as a starting point for all movements. We rolled around on lacrosse balls and stretched in ways i hadn't experienced. I felt lose and limber. I've been working with a slight shoulder AC joint separation for 1.5 years now and I have very limited mobility on my right side. 3 minutes of rolling my upper traps and it was CRAZY how good my shoulders/muscles felt. He did a mobility test before and after and the results were instantaneous. I'll try to explain. Put both your hands about your head, reach for the sky, palms in, and force them back a little bit. Your hands are probably slightly behind your head. now roll around on a lacrosse ball on your right trap for a minute. Lay on your back with the ball just under your upper trap and with most of your weight (as much as you can stand) roll around, it doesn't feel great. Essential you are lengthening some tissue and rolling out problem spots and removing any impediments. now do the the arm test again - your right arm is probably a good three inches further back than your left...

cool right - this applies to all parts of your body. The biggest one for most players is their hip mobility, which is important to work on/warm up before you begin to do anything. more about that later.

I can't say everything i want to right now - will post again tomorrow with tons more details. I'm PUMPED to train - it's great,

Sunday: Goaltimate!!!! - Bill and I played at the UW and it was 55 degrees and sunny. NBD
Sunday Afternoon: SUPRABOWL. Bill, Curry, and I all took out $20 in ones and proceeded to bet on just about everything involved with the superbowl. Hannah even placed a few bets on the halftime show, but lost most of her money after Nicky Minaj didn't sing Superbase :)

The Chickens finally laid! see the two eggs from yesterday below. When i went out this morning, there was another egg in the box! - all medium to small sized when compared to a store bought 'jumbo' egg. brownish tan, no blue or green which means that Maleficent (the mutt breed i'll call 'easter egger') still has yet to lay an egg.

For a quick grammar lesson:
If you exclude the meaning "to tell an untruth" and just focus on the setting/reclining meaning of lay and lie, then the important distinction is that lay requires a direct object and lie does not. So you lie down on the sofa (no direct object), but you lay the book down on the table (the book is the direct object).
This is in the present tense, where you are talking about doing something now: you lie down on the sofa, and you lay down a book.

Past tense is completely wacky no rules here, just memorization:

I am going to email you even though I am texting you right n ow. Emails are fun. Let's see what I got to share with you. I may or may not have had a few too many drinks last night. I may or may not have told   and   when we left the bar that we were gunna puke and ralley. "Eat frech fries puke drink water and go back to the bar." I may or may no have hit my face on the mailbox and said "Ouch, ouch, ouch....thats okay noses are made to hit things." may or may not have taken a video of me and I told her to "turn off the fucking camra" and she didn't so I said "I know that light means you are taking a video what so you think I am a dumb piece of skeleton" I may or may not have looked at the couch and told   "I have slept a few too many nights on that couch with my shoes and jacket still on."   forced me to eat some rice chex and I may or may not looked at her and said "What are you trying to do sufficate me? You want me to die?" I recall this my mouth was really dry so I couldn't swallow the cereal so clearly that means you are sufficating me....By may or may not I obviously mean may.
Team Gossip Update
   and   (freshman last year) are hanging out...   doesn't know yet I'm waiting for the day he finds out.   has lots of boy problems because , ,   and   all like her. She told me   is the only one that currently gets to sleep in the bed with her not the guest bed in her room. She hasn't decieded who she likes yet though. I am not allowed to tell anyone that so don't blow my cover I like getting the gossip.    is going for    ....in her words "He is nice and seems like he is bored which is what I am right now." Last update I had they only made out once so far. Kills me.   and   bone all the time and    is crazy. He visits me at work regularly and gets free lube. He wants to fill a whole briefcase with it is what I am told. They are not dating because doesn't want a commitment so they just bang. One time the whole ruby house was shaking from them.
As for me...I didn't hang out with   this week besides at the Library studying for finals. Don't worry. We were good children and did homework the whole time. The only sidetracking that occured was drawing pictures. He saw my notes from class with doodles all over and impressed me with his doodling skills. We share a love for doodling, makes perfect sense why we are friends. Maybe we should make a sex painting together like   wanted to do then we could sell it to her. I will put a lululemon logo on it so it's expensive and she wants it. Brilliant. (I did get a 4.0 this semester.) Anyways I believe I am going to hang out with him today for a bit. Maybe I'll muck face with him or just pinch his butt. Or go sleep in his bed because I am tired. He makes fun of me for how much I sleep. What do you do when you see    daddy? So you instantly muck face or just rip each others clothes off. Do you purposely wear something that is quick undress. Go comando. Let freedom ring. (this means no bra in case you forgot. I let freedom ring when I went to breakfast at the Cafe today. It's pretty fun try it sometime)You should wear a leotard one day and throw him off. hahaha. hahaha. I hope you laughed cause that is funny.
This might be the longest email I have composed in a while. I am at work right now. I am getting paid. It's like I am a writer just like my mommy. Getting paid to write. Well I hope you are at work right now so you are getting paid to read this as well. I only have one more class to take before I graduate. Scary. I need to go study for the GRE actually that was my plan today. I am taking it Monday. YIKES.

Well - it looks like I'm going to miss my 'all time high' for posts, falling just short of the mark i set in 2009 (174) - not bad considering i was cameraless for 50 odd days.

Off to Bill's (parents) cabin tomorrow at 9am with Nate, Bill, Mellie, Claire, Hannah, Sallie, Emily, and maybe a few more. Snowmaching, hottubbing, saunaing, canoe sledding, etc. I can't wait to decide what the year of 2012 will be dubbed, usually we decide somewhere between midnight and 2am... 2010 was "No Sleep in 2010!!!!!" and 2011 was "No Shirts in 2011!!!!" - who knows what 2012 will hold...

That said - I'll see you all (all 13 of you) in 2012!!!!

Ski day at Crystal yesterday, with the office - ENHANCE.

my first time up there - was a blast, started snowing right as we arrived, awful visibility. Lots of Blue circles and Green squares. Would have like to ski the black diamonds, but it was Ayva's first time on skis in ten years, and Andrea was out-of-commission so we kept it low key. It was my first time downhilling since 2008?

replaced the corolla window today - that was tough. If you ever need advice on how to change out a rear door window on a 93-97 toyota corolla wagon, give me a holler.

We leave for AK tomorrow.

Leaves and Stuff

I added a bunch of leaves from the yard to the chicken run - Maleficent, wasn't sure at first, as the video shows. After reading Smurray's blog, adding leaves sounded fun, plus the chicken poo mixes good with the leaves to create a good mix for compost.

The Roast

Sockeye roast is tomorrow - i'm roasting ***** - i'll let you know on Sunday. The roast is just what it sounds like - a roast, each teammate has another teammate and you roast them - some people have prepared presentations, other make videos, poster, calendars, and my favorite (i've heard the story) Dave Bestock 'stole' Sam CK's answering machine and brought it to the roast and hit play (Dave had pre recorded all of these messages, many from SCk's current girlfriend, Meredith). My other favorite roast (again, just the story i heard) was Danny Trytiak's last year on the team, he hadn't showed up to much and nobody really expected him to come to the roast - long story short, he show's up and rookie Eddie hadn't prepared a roast. Eddie gets up and says something like - We'll Danny, nobody thought you would show up to the roast, seeing as you haven't come to much all year, so i didn't roast you (large applause) - and Danny walks out xD

DKarlinsky stopped by last night to see the new house, we talked about Sockeye, felt kinda good seeing as nobody has mentioned anything in the past 2 months. in College, CUT was on the brain all day every day, but now frisbee is definitely moving to the background, at least for now... It's like people lead real lives or something... Team meeting in January, i'm sure the talk will ramp up by then.

Holiday shopping mostly done - looking for some good hip-hop check out Lamar Kendrick.

Winter goalty league ended Monday - my team won 2 games all season. We lost in the first round to eventual winner BJ/Nate/Tom - but ended up winning the last place game against Reid's team - breaking seed and finishing 7th!!!!!

Garden work this weekend - i'm going to lay down some cardboard to kill of the grass where we will put in the beds - i've started the compost pile - at this point a smallish pile of chickenpoo, leaves, and grass. I got this book written in part by the group Seattle Tilth called - Your Farm in the City - nothing too in depth but a good starting point.

We leave for AK next Thursday - getting pumped cant wait for the snow/skiing/bill's cabin. I miss that place.

Our house was broken into last weekend and they made off with both my cameras..... and laptops.... and bike....etc etc etc. word to the wise - GET RENTER'S INSURANCE - it's like $150 year and most cover your vehicle also - think about it.

so until then - this is now a words blog, how boring.

And now for the good news - i have an appointment tomorrow morning to review the security footage from the apartments down the street from us. hopefully i'll find something good. I also have a pair of gloves used by the culprits. with any luck, we'll nab 'em.

And now for the really good news - i'm thinking of becoming a Private Eye - I'll make my decision depending on how tomorrow goes.

And now for the REALLY good news - We are moving out at the end of the month and moving into a 2 br place with the one, the only, LIZZYY QQQQQQQQ... that should be real.

And now for the REALLY GOOD news - Ashoka Seattle - my current place of work - has decided to hire me on full time - for a wage that is ABOVE the poverty line - TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow, in the 7 seasons of 'competitive frisbee I've played, i'm 3-4 going to nationals. That's pretty bad.
Sockeye didn't qualify for nationals this year :( I'm disappointed and feeling a little lost at the moment. My boss noticed my demeanor at work was a 'little less smilely' than usually. Tell me about it.

lots of thought swirling around. I think it will take while to get it all straightened out.

I bought my ticket to nationals back in August, with the intention of going to support Riot even if Sockeye didn't make it. At the time i kept "thinking of the curse" of buying your tickets early - and mostly how silly it was. But even then, I felt the weight of qualifying weighing the team down...

I don't dream very often, but I did the on Friday night before regionals. I was playing, a swing would come my way and I'd try to catch it with my hands on the side, and drop it. I'd begin to walk off the field dejected, and instead of the highfives I'd normally get from my teammates, they stabbed me as I walked past. This happened over and over again until i woke up. HOW'S THAT FOR PsychoLOLgy.

My first sectionals club championship!!!!

a slow Saturday to say the least, beat Enemy (Canada?) Downpour (lots of WWU alum/current players) and Voodoo. didn't play well in any of the games, we did realize though, that we have power over the atmosphere of the game, we don't need big plays, or bad calls to get fired up. Just a mater of all 27 guys saying, ok, now lets turn on the lights

Sunday - much better. Blackfish went down 15 - 7, and we faced Furious in the finals. I'll preface this by saying, Furious was missing 5 of their starting 7 oline players. Either way, we crushed them. lots of body blows early on paid off in the second half as our o line scored effortlessly, and the handler pressure of the defense caused error after error. Furious are a bunch of hypocrites - they try to bully teams into not making calls by being loud and aggressive - i can see how this works. I wouldn't have a problem with it, except that they make the same calls, and if you ridicule them, they bitch and moan.

Regionals 3 weeks away.

Friday night in Oakland - 2 hamburgers - thx kanman - Diddy Kong Racing Saturday - arrived at 8:30 didn't play till 11:30- Pony,we played bad, won, JB, played bad, won, Doublewide, THEY played awful, won, do you know how to beat Brodie??? i do. - ate at an italian restaurant, birra Moreti, ice bathed, watched congo, shared a twin mattress with BJ. Sunday - 11:30 start time, thx te danny, played Cash Crop, played terrible, won, played Rhino, o played terrible, lost. Still the 1 seed from our pool, played Chain in the semis - D played pretty well - o played pretty bad - lost on doublegamsies. ate dinner at the falafel place with Rehder, Jules, Simon, Bj, Frank, safety first yall, dressed for the party- lifeguard theme, threw a dance party on the roof, showdown showedup, went to the Blue Lagon, sweated, slept Monday - Breakfast at the Bagelry, suprise - kanner had 2. drove back to Oakland, finally stopped at a trader joes, mmm juice. arrived in Oakland, SAMBOB, watched source code :( ate dobbin's version of pad thai. got on a plane - back to Seattle 10:20pm.

Labor Day tomorrow,

Part 3

spent the night in a less than perfect campsite, after some deliberation... Also, we camped in the middle of GoatYork CITY! seriously. AT the end of the trip there was a sign for "Extremely Habituated" mountain goats, this was an understatement. They would sprint at you, while you were peeing, to get at the salt. fun for a while (30 mins) super sucky for the rest of it (16 hours). all of this could have been averted with a different campsite, but i was in the minority................................... sat around the camp stoves and cooked, sky was so clear, but alas, I forgot my glasses. went to bed fairly early.

highlighted that regardless of the country you're in, it would be sweet to have some homeboys/girls around to make it even more enjoyable.

got up fairly early the next morning and made the began the 12 mile trek down. The first couple miles were still awesome, though nothing like the top. Eventually we were hiking through the woods, knees were tired, a lot less cool stuff. passed some lakes with people swimming in them, water feels so good when you've been hiking.

great dinner at the Latona Pub, go if you ever get a chance, 65th and Latona, suppa good.

The Top - incredible, tough hike makes it more worthwhile for sure, but either way. Normally when you get to a pass, summit, it's windy, and your sweat makes you cold within 10 minutes. Not here, still, 80+, shirts off, sunbathing, just kicking it on huge flat slabs, so rad.

With all the snow from the spring, there was still a lot of cover, some obvious glisading trails on the steeper sections. Looking east, an expanse of gray stone, snow fields, and craigy peaks. We started the flat trek, across a loosely defined trail, the snow altering the route in some paths.

The stone up there is awesome, just huge, huge slabs of gray rock, granite in some places, something smoother in other. Basically a huge play ground, you can go anywhere you want, and the rock is grippy enough that you can walk up/down really steep stuff.

There is water everywhere, small pools, idyllic streams, larger pools, waterfalls across the stone connecting pools, just awesome.

There is a certain spirit up there that is powerful, I sat for awhile, thought about lots. If you described people in terms of a landscape, how would you be described? and in reverse, if I wish to be described by what i saw/experienced, what kind of person am I? I wish I could bottle it, or recreate it in my living room, the peacefulness. The gray color was oddly warm and inviting, an otherworldliness that was hypnotic.

Enchantments - hard to chose the photos that best illuminate the trip, tons and tons of incredible stuff up there. The force of nature up there is palpable. I'm going to post in ~chronological order so you can get a feeling of what we experienced.

we started out Saturday afternoon, drove 2 hours to near Leavenworth with Andrea. spent the night car camping. Got up early, drove 15 miles into Leavenworth, that's a great place, all Bavarian themed :) drove 15 minutes to the snow-lake trail head (1300 ft), the end of our journey, parked 1 car. The eight of us piled into 2 cars and drove ~20 minutes to the Stuart lake trail head (3400 ft.). Rough road was only about 6 miles. parked, got on the trail about 10:00am

First 5 miles is mostly in the woods, slowly gaining elevation to 5600 ft, Colchuk lake and the base of Asgard pass. Aasgard pass is sandwiched between the Enchantment peaks and Dragontail peak (the name is obvious once you see the pictures). After lunch at a huge boulder field at Colchuk lake, some swimming, losing a nalgene into the boulder field :( we began the hike up Aasgard.

Most people chose to approach the enchantments from the snow-lake side because the climb is much more gradual, 12 miles vs 6 miles to climb to the same elevation. I'm glad we chose the short and steep route, though the pass proved incredibly difficult. Only Carins mark the path, if you can call it that, it's mostly scrambling over boulders that have some dirt marking where others have gone before.

The group spread out here as the noon sun beat down. The weather was 90 and sunny, though a bit cooler at higher elevations, none the less, lots of sweating. Passed an '03 Carleton grad on the way down, as well as some other groups. The down was very sketchy, much preferred going up to down.

I looked into calculating the %grade of this climb, but i dont know the horizontal distance covered, but i can say that 2200 ft (change in elevation) divided by 3696ft(.7 miles) actual distance covered, equals .59 or 59% which translates to 53 degrees, but clearly this isn't right. or is it?

After many stops, and about 1-1.5 hours to go .7 miles (2200ft) we reached the top. Man was that sweet. Part 2 tomorrow.
